“Fattorie Azzolino” has gone through a century of history,
has animated the passion of three generations and has given work to lots of families. It has old roots, which go back to the beginning of
the twentieth century, thus, in order to know the origins of the enterprise, one needs to run again through the last century. One must go
back to the years where, in a rural economy, the ancestor Francesco Sacco, has decided to put into reality his love for land and his passion
for life: therefore an agricultural enterprise has begun to operate in an old villa in contrada Azzolino in Monreale’s territory at the surface
of Camporeale.

The first “challenges” : from Camporeale to France and to England
In few years, Francesco Sacco has given life to a reality, which has grown and has expanded its interests beyond Camporeale, creating t
he basis for a transformation which would occur after the Second World War. In fact, around the 1950’s, the enterprise, under Attilio,
Francesco’s father, has decided to challenge the agricultural industrial transformation, going hand in hand with the days where new systems
of production were being developed. Apart from its own grapes, the enterprise produced grapes purchased from other producers. Hence, in a few
years, the enterprise has become a crucial reference for other agricultural producers between the countryside of Camporeale and Monreale.
Under Attilio Sacco, the growth of the enterprise has been so rapid that in fact, it has become the largest private cellar round that region.
His business affairs has gone beyond the strait of Messina, which so, has created the definitive basis for the final phase of growth.
In the 1970’s, the grandson of Francesco Sacco, Franco, succeeded in exporting white wines and fine rosè to France and England.
The successful production has been characterised by the great quality of grapes. The enterprises’ territorial boundaries reached the biggest
extension: by the end of the 1980’s the enterprise has become the cross-referent mark for more than 50 local producers and lots of workers.
The revival and agreement with “Cantina di Nomi”
Around 1987, the enterprise has gone through a difficult period, which was a reflection of what the wine industry was going through that
particular time; thus it had shut down. However, in 1994, Franco Sacco, has left his professional work to take under his hands the enterprise
“Fattorie Azzolino”, which was created by the passion of his grandad and strengthened by his father later on. Franco Sacco has rooted out the
old vineyards and projected to set up “Nero d’Avola”, “Cabernet Sauvignon”, “Merlot”, “Sirah” and also to get in contact again with old commercial
relationships, investing all his money and moral energy. Once again, times had changed: it was the period of partnerships. After a century,
the familiar wine-making enterprise had become “Fattorie Azzolino Srl”, without forgetting its own original roots still evidenced by the hills
of Camporeale overlooking the valley of Azzolino. The partnership with “Cantina di Nomi” has a history: “Our partners – says Franco Sacco –
has been fascinated by our history, our traditions and by the role the enterprise has always played”. It has started in this way the partnership
with “Cantina di Nomi”, a splendid medieval village found on the right bank of the river of Adige, Vallagarina; a fertile and a sunny area ,
where some of the best grapes of Trentino are grown. In spite of the geographical position of Camporeale and of Nomi, it merges the semplicity,
the pride and the tenaciousness found in these two villages for their own work. After a century, the same quality emerges in the first bottle
of Fattorie Azzolino, the Chardonnay IGT Sicilia 2000, where the sunshine and colours of Sicily are mixed harmoniously with the scent of the Nomi
barriques. Another century of history has begun.
